The Happiest Place on Earth

In 2011 I studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, which remains one of my favorite cities I’ve ever visited. I didn’t know anything about Denmark, but I quickly became immersed in the culture, and it didn’t take long to realize why so many people have come to love this special place.

You may have heard Denmark often referred to as “The Happiest Place on Earth,” and this is largely due to the contentment of its people. There is a strong emphasis on family, education, and healthcare. The people are friendly, welcoming, and open, and while they certainly aren’t dancing in the streets of Copenhagen, there is a general feeling of being satisfied with what you have, and accepting a modest, comfortable lifestyle.

Denmark is also the place where I first starting getting into photography. I took a photojournalism class, and spent many days wandering the quaint yet magical city of Copenhagen photographing anything I came across. These are some of my favorite shots from my time there, my homage to this quirky, beautiful, and of course, happy place. I hope you enjoy!

  1. Heheh….we wrote about the Happiest place on Earth (Europe) too recently but that was reference to Disney…
Indeed Denmark is a happy country to live in. Too expensive though to our liking!
